Here Goes...

I've been reading craft blogs for awhile now, and in every one that I've read I've seen the same thing: the online crafting community is a sweet and generous group of people.  I experienced it first-hand myself, before even having a blog - G over at Doe-C-Doe not only gave me the encouragement I needed to start my blog, but she sent me a link to the Crafty Blog School, which taught me everything I needed to know! (Thank you, G!)

Well, I might as well just jump right in and share a WIP:

Way back in 2006 (oh dear, has it really been that long?) we had a new addition to our extended family.  I bought this yarn to crochet a baby blanket for his Christmas present, and though I worked on it very diligently, it wasn't ready in time.

Baby got a different present, and I stopped working on the blanket. Well, now Baby's 2nd Christmas has come and gone, and I finally picked it back up again!  And I am almost done!  But Baby's kinda old now, so I may save this blanket for the next little one to come along.

Not too bad for the first thing I've ever crocheted, eh?

  1. Welcome, so glad you've joined the party! You did pick up crochet quickly...I'm so jealous I can't knit or crochet. It looks so cute - I love the colors! And I think you're never too old for a handmade gift and everyone loves to cuddle up with a blanket so you should still give it to baby!

  2. welcome aboard... I always say to new people that blogging is a bit like 'hotel California', you can check out (and we all have breaks for a while) 'but you can't never leave!'

Love that blanket. My first crochet project back when I was ten (nun school... they taught all sorts of girlie stuff) was a very crooked scarf for my grandad... bless him, he wore it for years.

  3. Thank you both for the lovely comments about the blanket. I am very proud of it, despite the fact that I started it about two years ago, and it's still not done...

And G, it's not quite as impressive as it seems. I had to be taught to knit about 5 or 6 different times before it finally stuck... and the first results weren't so great... I think that crocheting is just enough like knitting (you know, making patterns with yarn) that I picked it up faster than if I'd never done any knitting. And I don't even know how to finish up my blanket, let alone start a new one! I see more crocheting lessons in my future.

Monica - that was so sweet of your grandad. I would be embarrassed to even show anyone my first scarf, let alone have them wear it! :)

  4. Looks fab! I've never attempted crochet, but I just may have to try someday.

What a great blog name you've come up with - enjoy the journey.

  5. Welcome! I just learned to crochet - it's good fun but I can't do it with one eye on the TV, unlike knitting!

  6. Oh, I'm the same way! I always love knitting scarves because I don't really have to look at what I'm doing. It's a great way to feel productive while watching a movie. :)

    Definitely doesn't work with crocheting.

  7. Like anything crochet comes with practise. And that is some pretty yarn there :)

  8. Congratulations on starting your blog and thanks for Crafty Blog School link.

Your card set looks beautiful, but I won't be entering the give-away as I have too many cards already and never manage to find time to send them. However I will come back to see what other things you'll create. :-)

  9. Love that yarn! I'm a knitter but every once in awhile I get a bee in my bonnet to "hook" a bit. You did a great job. This is my first visit to your blog, btw, so 'Hi'!
